What I do at Aptem
I'm Rob, and I'm the Head of Engineering at Aptem. I'm responsible for making our technical capabilities a success, by empowering and supporting our technology staff, pushing us to try new things, and helping us reflect, learn, and be better than we were yesterday.
Why Aptem
We're a young company, with a great "can-do" culture, filled with good people. I really enjoy working with my colleagues, and their willingness to engage, to exchange ideas, and to work towards making things better for everyone.
Who am I?
My background is in building customer-facing, cloud-delivered, SaaS software products, and creating confident technical cultures that develop and operate them. I’ve worked as an engineer, an architect, and a software leader, and I’m a strong believer in cutting through symptoms to truly understand a problem, and engaging others to collectively build an elegant solution. I compulsively draw pictures to get people on the same page, I have a drive to automate as many things as I can, and I love empowering engineers to learn new things, to grow, and to have fun doing it.
Advice for prospective candidates
In general, my mindset around hiring staff boils down to looking for two qualities:
- Are you passionate about building cool software?
- Do you like being part of cultures that are supportive, collaborative, and focused on improvement?
If you think you're a "Yes" to both of these, we're probably going to get on well.
